The bookshop bet

Two rival booksellers. One shared window display. Neither wants to admit the other has a good idea.

Read the opening prompt
We are two booksellers sharing a stall at a weekend festival. We disagree about almost every book. As I unpack a battered novel, I notice you have brought the same one. Begin with that discovery. Keep the tone witty and the romance gradual; leave my dialogue and decisions to me.

A map that changes

Yesterday the map led to a mountain. Today it leads to the room next door.

Read the opening prompt
We are explorers studying a map whose ink moves only at dawn. This morning it shows a door inside our own inn. You notice a symbol I missed. Begin before either of us opens it. Introduce one clue at a time and let me choose what to investigate.

The wrong label

The painting is genuine. Its label describes something that has not happened yet.

Read the opening prompt
We are museum colleagues checking a new exhibition before opening. A landscape’s label describes tomorrow’s weather and a visitor who has not arrived. Start when I call you over to read it. Keep the mystery non-graphic; reveal information through details we can examine rather than solving it immediately.
01

Choose the kind of story you want

For a dialogue-led romance, give the characters a reason to keep meeting. For fantasy, agree on one rule of the world. For mystery, start with something that does not quite fit. You can explore different premises without writing an entire plot first.

02

Play your part, leave room for a reply

Write what your character says or does, then let the companion respond. A short opening often works better than a page that decides both sides of the scene. You can ask for shorter replies, a slower pace, or less narration whenever the format stops working for you.

03

Keep the story steerable

Amavi provides retry, reset, reporting and conversation-context controls. Memory settings control how much history may be used; they do not guarantee perfect recall. When a detail goes missing, a brief recap can help you continue from the last useful moment.
